Karen Jones Mindfulness Instructor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher. I first became interested in helping people achieve optimal health and wellness as an undergraduate student majoring in Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After returning to higher education and achieving a master’s degree in behavioral sciences in 1992, I worked as a mental health counselor for 30 years.  In 2008, I attended a training on mindfulness meditation as a self-care tool and I was touched deeply by the benefits of the practices.  I was drawn to MBSR due to its universality; participants not needing to believe any specific doctrine while being invited to explore a deeper and greater understanding of themselves and others. I completed training through UMass Center for Mindfulness and achieved full certification as a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher in 2019. In 2024, I completed a Mindfulness Mentor Training program and now offer Mindfulness Mentoring to individuals and groups.

I have used my experience, knowledge, and creativity to facilitate numerous trainings, presentations, and workshops on mindfulness for twelve years to local colleges and school districts, in local businesses and organizations, and to individuals and groups. I have come to understand both personally and professionally, the powerful impact of mindful awareness and physical activity on stress reduction, energy, productivity, attention, motivation and overall health.  I am enthusiastic about using mindfulness-based interventions to assist others in setting intentions for and achieving optimal mental and physical well-being.

I am skilled and prepared to develop programs to meet specific organizational needs that encourage personal growth and increased wellness, individually and collectively. The interventions I provide include emphasis on both mindset and motion. I excel in helping others understand that movement is a vast array of forms and practices; there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. I use mindfulness to assist in paying attention to one’s body and mind to determine healthy motion, identify nourishment and develop the ability to choose one’s attitude. I use a didactic and experiential approach to create a safe, accepting, and interactive experience for individuals and organizations. My approach encourages increased insight and understanding around how we can contribute to the greater good individually and within the organizations in which we work and volunteer.
