What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the awareness that arises as we pay attention, in a particular way to the present moment. It involves paying present moment attention while observing thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and reactions to whatever is arising, without getting caught up in judging what is arising. Rather, the intention is to attend to what is arising with a sense of curiosity and kindness.

Mindfulness and Motion asserts that we can and do benefit from paying attention to the present moment in stillness AND while we are in motion. We are in constant motion physically and mentally and mindfulness helps in cultivating the ability to collect ourselves, observe what is occurring in our minds, bodies and in our outside world. With this increased awareness we are more equipped to choose supportive ways of engaging and responding to ourselves and others.
